Due to difficulties in acquiring new aircraft, Russian airlines have begun putting previously retired Boeing 747-400s back into service. These aircraft, which were removed from fleets after the COVID-19 pandemic, have been refurbished and reintroduced starting in 2025.
So far, three aircraft have been made operational, while refurbishment work on a fourth is ongoing. For a fifth aircraft, spare parts are reportedly being sourced from unofficial markets. With an average age of 25 years, each of these aircraft has a capacity of around 522 passengers and is being used only on domestic routes.
